Shoplifter abandons groceries to escape

A Fairfield shoplifter fled Super Stop & Shop, leaving $210 worth of groceries behind, on June 18.

Store employees told Fairfield police the suspect was selectively ringing up items at the register, but bagging everything in his cart.

The suspect was chased into the parking lot by a store manager, where he jumped into the passenger side of an older model red Honda sedan. He escaped, but had to leave the cart behind.

Tool theft

A Bridgeport man who allegedly stole tools out of a truck parked at The Home Depot,  541 King’s Highway Cutoff, on Valentine’s Day was arrested in court for the crime on June 18.

According to Fairfield police, Joseph Palmer, 42, of North Avenue, has 27 arrests across multiple municipalities for crimes ranging from larceny to criminal trespass.

He was arrested on June 18 on a warrant for the alleged Home Depot theft. The charges claim he took two nail guns and a hand held grinder from an unlocked truck in the parking lot on Feb. 14. They were valued at a combined $550.

Palmer then allegedly brought the equipment to East Cost Pawn in Bridgeport on Feb. 15. Police were able to eventually locate the items through a pawn shop database search.

Palmer was held on a $5,000 bond on June 18.

The stolen tools were returned to their rightful owner.
