No foul play suspected in artist’s death

Fairfield-based artist Nikolay Pap, 59, was found in Ash Creek on June 15. Papp had went for a walk the night before and never returned home.

His wife, Irina Simeonova, reported Papp missing at 5:27 a.m. An area resident walking his dog over a bridge crossing Ash Creek discovered the body three hours later.

According to police reports, Papp told his wife he was going for a walk the previous evening. He asked her to accompany him and she declined. Papp left without his wallet, keys or cell phone, and may have been drinking heavily.

That was the last time anyone is reported to have seen Papp alive.

Papp’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office and a report is expected in the next few days.

Police said there was no apparent sign of trauma nor any immediate indication that Papp committed suicide.

The death remains under investigation.
