Mathnasium to host study skills summer program

Mathnasium and Successful Study Skills 4 Students (S4) announce a summer offering of S4’s study skills workshop for middle school students. The workshops foster academic achievement by teaching students key study strategies that help them learn while reducing stress.

The workshop is open to all area students who are entering fifth through eighth grades. Classes will be held at Mathnasium, located at 1700 Post Road, in Heritage Square, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 5 through 7, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.,

The workshops are taught by accredited teachers and class size is limited to 15 students. The small class size allows for more focused and individualized attention to be given to each participating student.

The S4 program is founded on educational research and evidence-based studies. Its highly interactive approach is designed to clearly demonstrate how to apply students’ own curriculum to the strategies they learn. S4’s workshops are continually refreshed and updated to stay relevant to students’ academic experiences.

“Study skills support students mathematic ability and thus can propel students to do better, not only in their math classes, but in all academic areas. We are delighted to partner with S4 to provide our students with the skills they need to excel in math and in all subject areas,” said David Lubner, center director for Mathnasium of Fairfield. “We look forward to giving students the opportunity to learn these critical skills for success before the new school year.”

“Working with Mathnasium makes perfect sense as math and study skills use similar disciplinary skills,” said Michelle Sagalyn, S4 president. “We are excited to offer the S4 workshops at Mathnasium of Fairfield this summer. Whether students are facing a transition into middle school or just looking to improve their overall academic experience, we offer tools that can help them succeed. Implementing even a single new skill has been shown to boost students’ motivation and academic performance.”

The S4 program is specifically designed to provide students with the skills and strategies needed for academic confidence, motivation and preparation, particularly as they move up to the next grade level, where academic workload  increases, independent work encouraged, and expectation rise.

S4 supplies all materials, including that for at-home support. The three-session workshop costs $395. For more information, contact S4 at 203-30-SKILL (203-307-5455) or [email protected] To register online, visittinyurl.com/Summer-2013-Fairfield.
