The Central Connecticut Coast YMCA recently presented Y Volunteer of the Year Awards to Mark McDermott of Fairfield and Bernardo Moreno of Bridgeport for their commitment to the Fairfield YMCA, a branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA.

The award is a way to honor the generosity and dedication of the best of the best. The Central Connecticut Coast YMCA has more than 1,048 volunteers across its service area. Their kindness is the core of its existence, playing a critical role in carrying out the mission.

McDermott offered to volunteer the first day his daughter practiced with the swim team. He not only keeps time at swim meets, but also offers his accounting talents and organizational skills which help the team succeed out of the water. McDermott’s service has been an asset to the Fairfield Y swim team.

Moreno has assisted with the Fairfield Y preschool summer camp program for the past two years. He is a child at heart and a strong role model for everyone involved in the program.
