Shoreline Elite Aquatic reaching out

Shoreline Elite Aquatic (S.E.A.), a Connecticut swim club established in April 2012, is offering an elite swim program at the University of Bridgeport’s Wheeler Recreation Center.

Director Brad Flood of the university’s swim team is the owner and team administrator of S.E.A., together with head swim coach Michael Ferraro, an All-State and four-time All-American swimmer.

The assistant swim coach is Shane Pelton, who is also the assistant swim coach at the University of Bridgeport and has coached national swim champions.

S.E.A. is composed of swimmers from Trumbull, Fairfield, Bridgeport, Stratford, Monroe, Shelton, Wilton and New Haven.

“As a coach it’s always been my dream to create a team that allows an athlete to be given the best possible training environment for them to achieve their own personal excellence in the sport of swimming,” Ferraro said. “I saw the need in the community for this high performance swim team, for those swimmers who excelled past the rec swim club level or lessons level. With the help of the University of Bridgeport, S.E.A. has created this environment of elite swimming.”

Seven swimmers qualified last year for the Eastern Zone Super Sectional Championships in Buffalo, N.Y., and the coaches anticipate doubling that this season.

S.E.A. has already out touched many teams to place seventh out of 21 at the Connecticut State Senior Open Invitational, which included competition from out-of-state swim clubs.

S.E.A’s  women’s division ranked seventh out of 25 at the Connecticut State Age Group Championships.

S.E.A also participated at the Sunkissed Invitational in North Carolina, where the Ultra Swim Arena Grand Prix at Charlotte is also held and platform honors were achieved by Hunter Wronski and Lisa Ward.

Shoreline Elite Aquatics athletes that have achieved success and will continue to swim at the college level are Ward, who will attend Central Connecticut State University, and Katie Krajcik, who will attend Southern Connecticut State University.

S.E.A. has made a splash with multiple high school state champions, including Mary Spillane, who was the Connecticut Post’s Athlete of the Week.

Some new athletes from the University of Bridgeport that now swim for S.E.A. have qualified for NCAA National Championships, U.S. Opens, World Championships and Olympic Trials.
