The father fled his son’s vehicle and called police from a Duchess restaurant on the Post Road.

Orange police captured Kevin McMahon, 34, of Jennings Road, Fairfield, and turned him over to Fairfield authorities. He was charged with breach of peace and threatening.

Fairfield police said McMahon and his father were involved in a verbal argument inside the car when McMahon raised the hatchet and made the threat. Police said the son has been sent to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Bond was $5,000 for court June 3.
