Beach/transfer station stickers on sale

The Parks and Recreation Department is reminding residents that they no longer mail reminder notices for beach and transfer station stickers. Last year’s sticker holders are encouraged to renew online at fairfieldrecreation.com. Those who renew online will receive their stickers in three to five business days.

Stickers may also be purchased at the Recreation Offices at 75 Mill Plain Road. A copy of the current vehicle registration is needed to receive a 2013 sticker. Vehicles registered and paying taxes to the town of Fairfield are eligible to get a “resident” sticker for $20 and $10 for seniors 62 and older. The sticker is good for all five town beaches, access to the marina and the town’s transfer station.

Vehicle owners whose cars are not registered in the town of Fairfield, should visit the recreation website for additional information. A “non-resident” sticker costs $135 and allows access to Jennings and Penfield beaches.

Hurricane Sandy caused significant damage to Penfield. Penfield Beach will be open to the public and lifeguards will be on duty, but the Pavilion will be closed for the summer season. Beach-goers should expect construction, reduced parking and no building access.
