Students donate get well bags to Ronald McDonald House

Inspired by the recovery of one a fifth grade peer who is a cancer survivor, the fifth grade students at Mill Hill Elementary School have raised money and are donating get well bags to the Ronald McDonald House of New York City.

The bags will be “stuffed” on Thursday, May 30, outside the classrooms. In addition to raising almost $1,000 through local bake sales, each fifth grader wrote a story, poem or cartoon that was compiled into a Mill Hill Happy Thoughts Book more than 100 pages long, which was professionally bound and will be included in each get well bag.

Each fifth grader is also donating a stuffed animal of their choice to be included in the bag, and several local companies also contributed items for the bags.

Items include Stop & Shop re-usable bags, donated by Stop & Shop of Westport; stuffed animal, donated by participating Mill Hill students; Happy Thoughts Book, written by Mill Hill students; deck of cards, donated by Foxwoods Casino; tooth brush and toothpaste, donated by Kids First Dentistry of Fairfield; Craisins, donated by Ocean Spray; friendship bracelets, donated by Girls on the Run, Mill Hill; tea, partial donation by Bigelow Tea; Crayola crayons, donated by individual; Pepperidge Farm Cookies, donated by individual; Hershey chocolate bars; mint; silly putty; bouncy ball; activity book; raisins; granola bar; bottled water, donated by Nestle Waters; and a box of puzzles and toys, donated by Melissa & Doug Toy Co. of Wilton.
