Firefighters respond to structure fire

The Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting structure fire at 61 Twin Lanes Road today, May 17, at 1:11 a.m. The Fairfield Fire Department was immediately dispatched.

The occupants were at home at the time of the fire and dialed 911. Upon arrival, the first fire units reported heavy smoke coming from the attic area of the house. The fire department initiated an interior attack. Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood arrived on scene and assumed command.

The homeowner reported that everyone was out of the house and that there were two cats missing inside. All on-duty Fairfield Fire Department resources were required to control this fire. Assistance was requested to the scene from Westport and Bridgeport fire departments, AMR and UI. Mutual aide coverage was also requested for fire protection in the community.

The fire was placed under control at approximately 2:15. There were no reported injuries at the scene. The home suffered extensive damage to the second floor and attic area. One of the cats was located and is safe the other cat is still missing.

The fire marshal’s office is conducting an investigation.
