Michael J. Ziman Jr., 26, of 505 Jewett Ave. Unit #B1 was charged with third-degree burglary after police said an investigation revealed he forced entry through the rear door of a house on Juniper Lane in Southport.

Bond was $100,000 for court May 21.

Fairfield Police said they identified Ziman as a suspect in several recent burglaries. The also learned he drove a dark blue Lexus ES 330 4-door sedan, and the license plate.

On Tuesday, May 7, detectives conducted surveillance in the Southport area. They located the suspect vehicle parked, unoccupied and running at the intersection of Barberry Road and Juniper Lane.

After several minutes a white male entered the vehicle and fled the area at a high rate of speed. A motor vehicle stop was conducted shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Mill Hill Road, and Ziman was detained on suspicion of a burglary. Detectives searched the area and found forced entry to a Juniper Lane home. Shortly thereafter the homeowner arrived to report that in fact a burglary had occurred and items were taken.

Police said Ziman was carrying jewelry believed to have been stolen in a burglary at the time of his arrest.

Ziman’s vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded at headquarters, where detectives processed. Additional items police said they believe were used in burglaries were found.

Police said information from “a very astute” resident helped lead to Ziman’s arrest.

The investigation was driven by a team of detectives, supervised by Det. Sgt. Fred Hine. Detectives Alex Fucci, Peter Koval and Edward Nook worked in unison with patrol officers providing details and descriptions of Ziman and his actions within town, specifically Tuesday in Southport area.

Detectives will continue their efforts today to determine Ziman’s possible involvement in other burglaries where the method of entry was similar to the Juniper Road break-in.
