Questions the town’s handling of taxes

To the Editor:

Our federal government closes the White House, our town closes the library.  Is that how you reduce spending?

Then the town raises the price of the recreation pass and the fees for the golf course for the town people, and the town does not raise the fees for out-of-towners. Is that fair?

The town of Fairfield also allowed all the private clubs in town to declare their land as open space so the clubs get drastic cuts on their taxes and we the taxpayers end up subsidizing these clubs. Is that fair?

Then the town tells us they are going to raise the taxes by 6.4% and gets everyone in town upset. Now the town is lowering the taxes, hopefully to somewhere around 3%, and we will all be happy with such a small raise.  How about no new spending? That would make us all really happy. How easy it was to cut the funding to the library; why then is it so hard to cut the budget for the Board of Education?
