Private library should be privately funded

To the Editor:

I have read the letters regarding the town funding cuts to the Fairfield Pequot Library with a bit of disbelief. I have lived in Fairfield 21 years and have raised two children and we have visited the Pequot library maybe twice,  while we frequented the Fairfield Woods and main libraries.

The Pequot Library is almost in Westport and an integral part of the Southport part of town. While I am sure people who live in Southport would love to keep their library open, as it adds wonderfully to their neighborhood, I firmly believe the money is better spent on Fairfield-owned schools and our children’s direct education needs.

If a private library is to survive, it should be funded privately. While it would be unfortunate, I can only take an educated guess that a vast majority of people who live Fairfield would not miss the library if it closed.
