Baseball: Lancers stop Red Devils

Matt Laskey had a big day at the plate to lead the Notre Dame of Fairfield baseball team past Stratford High, 6-4, on Friday afternoon at Penders Field.

Laskey, the Lancers’ ninth-place hitter, slammed a pair of doubles, drove in two runs and scored another to back the eight-hit pitching of starter Dillon Stimpson (2-0) in the South-West Conference matchup.

Karl Rodriguez nailed down the one-out save for Notre Dame (4-3), getting Josten Beato to ground into a fielder’s choice with the tying runs on base for Stratford in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Beato, a junior southpaw, took the loss on the hill for the Red Devils (4-3), who dropped their third game in a row.

Erik Laaksonen went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored for ND, while Anthony Searles added two hits, two runs scored, two walks and one stolen base.

P.J. DeFilippo drove in two runs with a seventh-inning single for the Lancers.

Nick DiIulio and Chris Reyes notched two hits apiece for Stratford, while Alec Ward and Mike Tecci had RBI doubles.
