Area children attend reading club’s kick-off event

Emma, 5, and Alex, 8, both of Fairfield, and Sofia, 8, of Bridgeport visit with Lucas and BB during the Stag Kids Reading Program kick-off event.

Children and parents flocked the second floor of the Fairfield University Bookstore for a chance to meet “BB,” the Bridgeport Bluefish mascot, and “Lucas,” the Fairfield University mascot, during the Stag Kids Reading Club kick-off event on April 14.

More than 20 kids in first through eighth grades registered for the incentive-based reading program and selected their first book to start reading more.

Club members who read a minimum of five books and write one original book review (approved by a parent and bookstore staff) between April 14 and July 14 will receive a free ticket to the Bluefish game on Sunday, July 28, at 1:05 p.m. The group will receive a private autograph session with the players before the game, a chance to run the bases after the game and a public announcement acknowledging their reading success.

Other raffle prizes for eligible members include two free tickets to a Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts performance series event and a $25 Fairfield University Bookstore gift card.

Kids can still sign up with a parent for the program in the Kids Area.
