Fencing coach charged with sexual assault

Fairfield-tejadaA former fencing coach at Fairfield Warde and Ludlowe high schools turned himself over to police custody on April 11. A warrant had been issued for his arrest on charges of second-degree sexual assault.

A high school-aged student reported to police that John Tejada, 36, sexually assaulted her in 2012. Police indicated there were allegedly multiple incidents with the student, though for now, prosecutors are pursuing one charge.

Prior to teaching fencing at Ludlowe and Warde, Tejada was the fencing coach at Wakeman’s Boys and Girls Club and was the primary coach at Fairfield Fencing Academy.

Tejada was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 23. He resigned a short time thereafter. Tejada had been teaching fencing as a Fairfield Board of Education employee since 2010.

Tejada lives on Mixville Road in Cheshire. Police said they are uncertain where, or if, he may have taught or had contact with children since resigning from Fairfield.

Tejada acquired the services of an attorney and turned himself over to police without incident following the warrant for arrest. He was released on a $150,000 bond.
