RTC opposes elimination of funding to Pequot Library

The Fairfield Republican Town Committee voted unanimously in opposition to the elimination of all funding to the Pequot Library in the town’s budget.  The vote was taken in the form of a sense of the body resolution.

Board of Finance member James Walsh had brought forth the resolution as he expressed strong concerns over the impact to the library in the event the funding was eliminated.

“There was a detailed discussion among members of the town committee regarding several budget items.  There was a strong sentiment among the committee that if cuts were to be made to nonprofits they should be phased in over time,” RTC Chairman James Millington said. “The body voted unanimously against eliminating the all funding to the Pequot Library.”

Among those present at the meeting and voting in opposition of the elimination of funding were Selectman Kevin Kiley, Board of Finance Chairman Tom Flynn, Board of Finance members Mary LeClerc, Jim Brown and Walsh and RTM Majority Leader Joe Palmer.

Flynn said he relayed the results of the sense of the body resolution to his fellow Republicans prior to their budget meeting on April 2.
