Fairfield Prep clips Notre Dame of West Haven in Division I final

Matt Wikman scored two goals, including the game-winner in the third period, to help Fairfield Prep defeat Notre Dame of West Haven, 3-2, for the Division I hockey championship at Yale’s Ingalls Rink on Tuesday night.

Matt Wikman netted the game-winning goal at 8:34 of the third period, powering Fairfield Prep to a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame of West Haven in the Division I state final.

Wikman, the game’s first star, scored two goals, helping the top-seeded Jesuits overturn a 2-0 first-period deficit at Ingalls Rink in New Haven. Michael Ventricelli had the equalizer in the second period for Prep, which beat Notre Dame for the fourth time this season.

Goaltender Matt Beck made 20 saves, while Green Knight counterpart Paul Sliwinski notched 28 saves.

Louis Iannotti and Bill Vizzo had the goals for No. 2 seed Notre Dame.

With the victory, Fairfield Prep captured its 15th ice hockey state title.
