Margaret M. Mellott, 79, of Fairfield, wife of the late James J. Mellott, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2013 with her devoted daughters by her side.
Margaret, affectionately known as “Babe” to her family and friends, was born in Bridgeport to the late John J. Relihan, Sr. & Anne E. Relihan.
She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy Laurelton Hall.
In 1953, she married the love of her life and they spent 41 wonderful years together. She enjoyed a lifetime of memories from her summers spent on the shore of Old Saybrook with family and friends.
Margaret was a 30 year Board Member of Parish Court Senior Housing in Fairfield and a longtime member of the Fairfield Women’s Club.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Terese A. Travis-Horvath & Robert S. Horvath of Fairfield and Denise M. & Charles F. Barnes of Milford; she was the loving Nana to her three grandsons who brought her much pride and happiness, Christopher J. Travis and his wife Melissa of Vienna, VA, Daniel J. & Kyle P. Travis of Fairfield and her lifelong friend, Lorraine Gosselin of Fairfield; several nieces and nephews and her canine companion, “Isabella”. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Senator John J. Relihan, Jr., Thomas Relihan and Edward Relihan and her sister, Anne Lang.
Friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday, January 18, 2013 leaving the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield. Interment to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
