Ludlowe defends title

Fairfield Ludlowe’s Ben Brzoski is in control on his way to the 182-pound title. The Falcons had four champions and captured the Ludlowe Invitational team title on Saturday.

The Fairfield Ludlowe wrestling team defended its Ludlowe Invitational title when coach Nick Garoffolo’s Falcons outpointed Cheshire High, 301-244.5 on Saturday.
McMahon of Norwalk (204,0) was third, Windsor High (111.5) fourth and Fairfield Prep (101.0) fifth in the 11-team field.
The tournament format was unlimited entrée, but only 20 wrestlers could score points.
Champions for Ludlowe were George Wales 106 pounds, Ben Batulanon 113, Marcus Sherrod 120 and Ben Brzoski 182.
Other finalists were Bobby Clark 120, Kyle DeCruccio 132, Chase Lind 138, Alex Sullivan 160 and Joe Sokolski 170.
Wales (1:05) and Batulanon (22 seconds) both pinned in the finals and Brzoski won by 16-1 technical fall.
Fairfield Prep’s Nick Crowle, who won the heavyweight title with a 10-1 major decision, was named Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Jimmy Cappone from McMahon earned the Fastest Fall designation with four pins in 8:48 on his way to the 145-pound title.
Ludlowe’s Jacob Jessen was third at heavyweight, Matt Garoffolo was fourth at 220, Jarred Hahn was fifth at 132, Austin Reid was fifth at 138, Peter Clark was fifth at 145, Nathan Nelson was fifth at 195, Austin Sherman was sixth at 106 and Angel Bruno was sixth at 160.
Prep’s Conor Ward was first at 152, Matthew Freed was fourth at 112, David Martens was fifth at 182, Andrew Lagrange was sixth at 112 and Ryan Zentner was sixth at 132.
