John Longo new boys hockey coach at Notre Dame

Notre Dame High School of Fairfield has named John Longo as its new head coach for the boys ice hockey team.

“I would like to thank President (Emeritus Fr.) Bill Sangiovanni, Principal Chris Cipriano, Athletic Director Rob Bleggi, Director of Athletic Advancement Jim Olayos, and the rest of the selection committee for the opportunity to lead the Notre Dame boys hockey program,” Longo said.

“Seeing their commitment to not only the hockey program, but to all the athletic teams by working hard to bring high quality coaches to Notre Dame is something that attracted me to pursue this opportunity.

“It is an honor to be named the next head hockey coach and leader of a boys hockey program with such a rich history and tradition. I am thrilled to be able to develop hockey players and create an environment for them to be successful by challenging them to become the best players and young men they possibly can be.

“Playing hockey at Notre Dame High School is a privilege and one that will be earned daily by the players and the coaches. I cannot wait to get to work with the players, set our goals very high, and have some fun working to achieve them.”

Bleggi said, “I am very excited to have John as our head hockey coach. His knowledge and leadership skills are second to none. I believe that the hockey program, as well as the school, will benefit because of John’s commitment to Notre Dame.”

Cipriano said, “It is a pleasure to announce John as our head boys’ hockey coach. I believe John will lead our program in a positive forward direction while further developing the skills and talents of our student-athletes both on and off the ice.”

Sangiovanni said, “As President of Notre Dame and an avid Lancer hockey fan, I am very pleased that John has accepted the position of head coach. I am confident that with his experience and knowledge he will provide the proper leadership for the team as we move forward.”
