Leeper nominated for a seat on the Board of Education

Jennifer Leeper, an educational professional, has won the Democratic nomination for a seat on the Fairfield Board of Education. Through her work experience she strongly believes that the quality of our children’s education today shapes the future we will all share tomorrow.

Jennifer worked as a school administrator in New York City. There she managed the school’s data-driven instructional model, coordinated testing, and was the director of special education. She was directly involved in the heavy lifting of educating children in our rigorous and changing academic climate. She understands the work it takes to differentiate instruction so that each child is challenged and each child achieves their greatest potential.

When Jennifer moved to Connecticut, she earned a job at the State Department of Education in the Performance Office. There she collaborated with stakeholders state-wide to expand the federally mandated school and district accountability system beyond simply student testing data. The system now features student growth, chronic absenteeism, access to courses that prepare students for college and careers, as well as access to the arts, among others. This system is a model to other states looking to diversify the ways in which they approach school and district accountability.

She believes in putting Fairfield children first, balancing building world-class schools with responsible fiscal decisions, and restoring civility to make our excellent school district a leader across CT. Jennifer will bring her professional experience and a fresh perspective to tackle the unique challenges that lie ahead with the current budget crisis. Jennifer strongly believes that we need to be providing a well-rounded and robust education that instills a lifelong love of learning in our students so as to produce thoughtful and critically-thinking citizens.

She has her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College (BA Political Science and Religion) and her master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy. Jennifer is married to Nick Leeper, who is a Principal at Ross, Jeffrey, & Antle, and together they are raising their 2 young sons, Sam and Ben.
