Most power restored in Fairfield

United Illuminating reported Tuesday that it has restored power to all but 2.5% of Fairfield, and that amount may plateau there for some time, First Selectman Michael Tetreau said Monday.

The tally homes and businesses without power includes 1,500 to 2,000 damaged homes in the Fairfield Beach area, Tetreau said.

UI reported Tuesday that 551 Fairfield homes and businesses were still dark. There will still 893 outages in UI’s coverage area.

Around 6 p.m. Monday more than a dozen line trucks were gathered in the area of Burroughs Road and Black Rock Turnpike for a massive rebuilding job, replacing a pole snapped off in front of Billy’s Bakery.
