Each year, once the One Book One Town selection has been announced by the Fairfield Public Library, a writing contest is also announced on a prominent theme from the chosen book. This year’s book, So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson, an engrossing piece of adult non-fiction, is an investigation of the way people interact online in the age of instant communication and snap judgment. This brought us to the theme of this year’s writing contest — judgment. Contestants were invited to share an unpublished work of 500 words or less on this topic.
The winners were Susan Mudd, first place; Alice Katz, second place and John Hanninen, third place. The winners were invited to attend a reception with author Jon Ronson when he visited Fairfield on March 8 and to read their works at the Library on the evening of March 16.
This is the sixth year a writing contest was offered as part of the One Book One Town programs. Congratulations to the winners!
Next year will be the 10th anniversary of One Book One Town in Fairfield.
